The Australian STAR Rating Scheme assesses six accommodation categories, including hotels and motels, serviced apartments and self-catering properties, hosted accommodation (B&Bs) and caravan/holiday parks.
Hotel
Properties that offer fully serviced guest rooms with ensuite bathrooms (excluding pubs). Guests expect the availability of daily housekeeping services, as well as access to a dedicated reception area or service desk during their stay. This category includes resorts and a partment hotels.
Motel
Properties that feature fully serviced guest rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Guests expect the availability of daily housekeeping services, as well as access to a dedicated reception area or service desk during their stay. Motels generally offer guests complimentary on-site car parking, or nearby car-parking facilities if located in CBD areas.
Serviced Apartments
Properties that offer self-contained units, ranging from studio apartments through to one, two, three bedroom, or penthouse apartments. Guests expect the availability of daily housekeeping services, as well as access to a dedicated reception area or service desk during their stay.
Self Catering
Properties that offer self-catered accommodation such as studio, one, two, three bedroom, or penthouse apartments, as well as cottages, chalets, villas, cabins or houses. Guests expect to be fully self-sufficient throughout the course of their stay.
Hosted Accommodation
Properties that offer hosted accommodation such as bed & breakfast, guesthouse or self-contained cabins, lodges and houses. Guests expect to interact with their resident host and to receive a highly personalised experience during their stay.
Caravan-Holiday Parks
Properties that offer powered and non-powered sites for caravans and tents as well as self-contained holiday units or cabins. Guests will expect a range of amenities located within a park or located nearby, such as a dedicated reception area, access to groceries, or recreational facilities.
