What is the STAR Rating Scheme?

The Australian STAR Rating Scheme is managed by AAA Tourism on behalf of Australia’s Auto Clubs and assesses six accommodation categories, including hotels and motels, serviced apartments and self-catering properties, hosted accommodation (B&Bs) and caravan/holiday parks.

The STARS help travellers to evaluate and select the right accommodation for their next trip.

This official accommodation rating scheme has a long and distinguished heritage with Australian Auto Clubs that stretches back to 1915, when the Clubs first provided their members with Australian travel information such as where to go, what to do and where to stay.

The Auto Clubs have independently rated Australian accommodation with a national STAR scheme since 1963.
