The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission have reached an agreement with major OTAs

In September 2016, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission reached an agreement with major OTAs; Booking.com & Expedia. Impacting the accommodation industry immensely, the agreement means that accommodation providers will not be able to advertise lower prices than OTAs online. They can however, offer lower prices through telephone bookings, loyalty clubs and walk-ins. Australia's independent ratings scheme of quality accommodation standards, Star Ratings Australia gives guests the opportunity to book directly with the property.

On the 2nd September the travel industry was abuzz with news the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission had reached an agreement with major OTA's that would remove barriers to price competition between major online travel sites for hotel bookings. 

Following an investigation by the ACCC, sites including Booking.com and Expedia have reached an agreement to amend price and availability parity clauses in their contracts with Australian hotels and accommodation providers.
